SEARSBURG, Vermont (CNN) -- High on a ridge in the middle of Vermont's Green Mountains is the largest commercial-scale wind farm ever built in the eastern United States.

There are 11 huge wind powered turbines that generate enough electricity to power about 2,000 homes. The turbines stand as a powerful symbol of the potential for a pletiful but expensive renewable source of energy.
