From...Toasters get Y2K seal of approval
March 8, 1999 by Tom Diederich (IDG) -- Shopping for a small appliance like a vacuum cleaner or a bread-slicer but worried about that pesky millennium bug? Sanyo's Web site customers can rest assured -- the products are all OK for "Y2K." In fact, all of the small appliances for sale at Sanyo Electric Co.'s U.S. subsidiary's Web site are displayed along with a notice that proclaims: "This product is Y2K compliant." A Sanyo spokeswoman, while acknowledging that there are no parts in products like bread slicers, vacuum cleaners or microwave ovens that threaten to melt down next Jan. 1, said the notice appears with all of the company's products for a very good reason. "You would be surprised about how many people write, call and fax us about whether some of these products like bread-slicers are Y2K compliant," she said with a laugh. "This is just a way to reassure them." Products with long-term timers -- like VCRs and camcorders, for example -- do raise concerns of whether or not they will display the correct date come 2000. Sanyo's assurance of year 2000 compliance also appears with these goods on its Web site.
