(IDG) -- Intel will launch its long-awaited 820 chipset on Nov. 15, the opening day of the Comdex trade show held in Las Vegas, a spokeswoman at Intel's U.K. office has confirmed.

Among the new features in the 820 chipset are support for Rambus' speedy memory interface technology, a faster 133-MHz system bus, and 4x Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP). Chipsets are key components found on PC motherboards, the printed circuit boards that define a system's functions.

The faster system bus speed will allow PC vendors to launch new models with the recently introduced 733-MHz Pentium III processor, Intel's fastest processor to date.

Intel in late September -- only days before the original launch date -- was forced to delay the introduction of the 820 chipset when a Rambus-related glitch was found.

The last minute delay caused grousing among PC vendors who had to put their system plans on ice.

Pricing information was not available.
