(IDG) -- Sony Electronics is expanding its family of Spressa CD-Rewritable drives with four new, faster models.

Sony by next month will start shipping two new internal as well as two external CD-RW drives, the U.S. subsidiary of Japan's Sony said in a statement.

The two internal drives, the Spressa Professional SCSI & EIDE, and the external Spressa i.LINK (featuring an IEEE 1394 interface) will support 8x recording and 32x reading of data, while the Spressa USB Plus drive now supports 4x recording, according to the statement.

The two external models are compatible with Microsoft's Windows 98 and Apple Computer's Macintosh platforms. Both also come with software bundles and interface cables.

Sony's two internal models are compatible with Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0 and also include bundled software.

The Spressa USB Plus and Spressa Professional (SCSI) will be available in the U.S. in late October for $329 and $399, respectively.

The Spressa i.Link and Spressa Professional (EIDE) will be available from November and will retail at $499 and $349, respectively.
