(IDG) -- Network Projects has announced the NetNumber platform for interoperability between different messaging programs. Network Projects, a start-up spun off from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Penn., said in a statement that NetNumber allows companies to run interoperable Instant Messaging servers in the same way they do with e-mail or Web servers.
The platform is aimed as a solution to the problem caused by the fact that there is currently no common standard for Instant Messaging programs. It supports interoperability between clients including America Online's Instant Messenger and ICQ, Microsoft's Messenger and Yahoo's Messenger, the company said. In addition, NetNumber also supports secure electronic commerce and privacy management, the statement said.
