WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The official Web site of the White House went back online Wednesday morning, more than 24 hours after hackers broke into the system.

White House spokesman Barry Toiv said the site was shut down Monday night after "an attempt was made ... to break into the system that operates the White House Web page."

Toiv said he had no information on who the hackers were or what their motive was.

An unconfirmed report said they were angered by the NATO bombing in Yugoslavia.

The site (http://www.whitehouse.gov) features a virtual White House tour, presidential speeches and other information about the Clinton administration. It contains no sensitive government information.

After the hackers were detected, Toiv said, officials monitoring the Web site decided to shut it down for review.

Clinton administration officials said Monday that computer hackers protesting NATO's accidental bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade attacked three U.S. government Web sites over the weekend.

In those cases, the hackers planted messages, condemning the bombing, on the main Web sites of the Energy and Interior departments and the National Park Service.
