From... 'Web scam' ISP reappears
May 5, 1999 by Daniel Tynan (IDG) -- InfoNet, a small Internet service provider at the center of PC World's recent "Web Scam!" article (link below), launched a new site this week -- at least, for a little while. The site appeared to be a virtual duplicate of a site created by Internet Connect, a local ISP in Salt Lake City. Dave Jennings, general manager of Internet Connect, says he has no idea why InfoNet chose to mimic his site. Dax Kelson, Internet Connect's chief information officer, says he contacted InfoNet's current Web host, www.9netave.com, and asked it to remove the site. On Friday, 9netave pulled the plug on InfoNet's entire site. Jim Richmond, head of security for the New Jersey Web hosting firm, said he tried to reach InfoNet by phone before he took down the site, but the number had been disconnected. InfoNet did not return e-mailed requests for comment. PC World investigated InfoNet after it was accused by many customers of taking their money and not delivering promised Net access services.
