Microsoft concedes NT security bug

(IDG) -- Microsoft Corp. announced that there is a security vulnerability in its Windows NT operating system and is working on building a hot fix.
A Microsoft spokesman explained that the vulnerability enables a user to gain administrative privileges on the computer the user is interactively logged on to. Although Microsoft says it hasn't had any reports of problems caused by it, the vulnerability primarily concerns workstations and other systems that allow nonadministrative users to interactively log on.
The privilege elevation can be prevented by setting the value of a specific registry key, according to a security memo released by Microsoft. The hot fix Microsoft is working on is being designed to change the default access control settings.
