Search engine for newspaper junkies makes its debut
(IDG) -- An Internet search engine start-up has unveiled the beta version of a Web site that specializes in helping users find information printed in newspapers from the U.S. and around the world. The site, (see 'Related Sites' listed below), lists results by the number of references to the search subject in each publication.
For example, a search of the name Microsoft yields 2,200 hits on 34 sites, with results ranging from Arizona Republic's 1,228 mentions of the software giant down to the lone mention contained in the Juneau (Alaska) Empire Online. More publications are scheduled to be added over time. The new site is owned by WordCruncher Internet Technologies of Draper, Utah, and is based on technology developed at Brigham Young University. Besides newspapers, "spyhop" also catalogs and accesses computing sites. WordCruncher officials say the term "spyhop" refers to how marine mammals such as walruses and seals raise their head out of the water to examine their surroundings. RELATED STORIES:
