From... Yahoo to speed up directory decisions, for a fee
February 15, 1999 by Tom Diederich (IDG) -- Online shopkeepers that want a quick answer as to whether their sites will be listed on No. 1 search-portal Yahoo Inc.'s main directory can have that information in about a week -- for a price.
Yahoo, which expanded its small-business suite of offerings yesterday, has a new service called Yahoo Business Express. For a nonrefundable fee of $199, Yahoo Business Express will let store owners know within seven business days if their sites have what it takes to be included in the company's coveted main directory. The payment merely ensures that Yahoo's editorial staffers will look at the site -- the company said the fee doesn't guarantee that a prospective site will ever appear as a listing in Yahoo's search results. "As with all sites suggested to us, final judgment remains solely with Yahoo editors," the company said. To qualify, businesses must meet and agree to accept a long list of conditions.
