From... Top 10 graphics boards
January 25, 1999 by Grace Aquino (IDG) -- Five of six new boards we tested this month landed on the chart, thanks to exceptionally fast 3D performance. STB's $149 Velocity 4400 takes the lead on the PCI chart (due partly to the company's good support policies, which include toll-free and weekend support), while Matrox's $129 Millennium G200 SD comes in second place. Both boards perform well when using standard business applications and 3D games. In the fourth spot, Metabyte's new $119 Wicked3D Vengeance delivered the fastest 3D performance we've seen yet. However, it lacks utilities such as zoom and color-calibration tools, and the company doesn't offer a toll-free tech-support line or weekend support.
We also tested the AGP version of Diamond's $169 Viper V550; it enters at number three, thanks in part to great performance and a good mix of bundled software such as MGI's fine image-editing program PhotoSuite SE, Platinum Technology's VRCreator Learning Edition, and Gremlin Interactive's 3D game Motorhead. Another speedy board: Creative Labs' new $170 Graphics Blaster RIVA TNT (AGP board) occupies fourth place. Quantum 3D's new $149 Raven PCI missed this month's Top 10 because it lacked sufficient utilities and support. Top PCI graphics boards
