(IDG) -- Lycos, one of the most popular portals on the Web, just upped the ante in online shopping. You can wander through an online mall from Apparel to Travel, moving from LEGO systems to Levenger to Mattell to Mrs. Fields Cookies. Make purchases from any store and pay with a single credit-card transaction on secure servers.
The company's Best Price Guarantee says you'll find everything at the same prices you'd pay if you ordered from the original catalogs at no additional markup. You also get a money-back guarantee in case a product fails to meet your expectations, according to Lycos.

Guarantees are nice, but in reality you'll still often find yourself trudging through a bricks-and-mortar mall.
While you can browse categories, choose a price range, or pick a merchant, the products you have to choose from are pre-selected. So while you may have a Christmas shopping list that includes a fluffy dog bed for your pup or a model airplane for your favorite nephew, you won't have much luck at Lycos Shopping.
Surprisingly, some categories don't include the items you'd expect. For example, rather than finding cars under auto, you'll only find auto accessories. And clicking Entertainment won't let you order tickets to a Broadway show; instead you'll find games, golf bags, and the like.
But if you like what's there, online shopping at Lycos can save you time and temper.
