From... Gingrich names E-commerce panel
by Nancy Weil (IDG) -- U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) has announced five appointments to an advisory commission established by the Internet Tax Freedom Act to study electronic-commerce taxation methods and issues. The 19-member Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce will consist of the secretaries of the Commerce and Treasury departments and the U.S. trade representative. Remaining members will be appointed by House and U.S. Senate leaders.
In a statement, Gingrich announced that he has appointed: Dean Andal, chairman of California's State Board of Equalization. James Gilmore, governor of Virginia. Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, who will represent U.S. taxpayers. Richard Parsons, president of Time Warner Inc. David Pottruck, president and co-CEO of Charles Schwab and Co. The Internet Tax Freedom Act imposes a three-year moratorium on Internet-related federal, state and local taxes. It calls for the commission to study Internet-related taxes and tariffs, as well as Internet transaction issues. |
