Boomerang helps small businesses set up online shopsNovember 18, 1998 by Yael Li-Ron (IDG) -- LAS VEGAS -- Small businesses, which generally view e-commerce as too technical and costly, have a simple and affordable new tool in Boomerang Software's WebShop Designer, scheduled to ship next month.
List-priced at $189, the package offers WYSYWIG development tools, shielding the user from HTML and other Web code, and comes with unprecedented free Web hosting and secure servers for transaction-based sites. Boomerang's service provides support for all the common needs of businesses looking to open online storefronts, including application for a domain name and setting up credit card accounts with a bank. The company won't charge a fee for these services, according to a spokesperson. The only cost to businesses is the price of the software. As a Web authoring tool, WebShop Designer features free-form positioning of objects (forms, images, and so on), and supports Cascading Style Sheets, ActiveX, and database connectivity via ODBC and SQL. There's also a Site Manager component for managing more than one Web page at a time. The package includes tools for creating standard e-commerce fare such as shopping carts. It all adds up to full-featured Web shopping sites.
