LAS VEGAS (IDG) -- More notable news and debuts from Comdex Fall 1998:
Casio Computer announced the release of its new lightweight, Windows 98-based, ultraportable computer, the Cassiopeia Fiva. The base configuration includes a 200MHz Cyrix MediaGX processor, 32MB of RAM, a 3.2GB hard drive, one PC Card slot, a USB connector, and infrared communication. List price is $2495.
Protec Microsystems debuted WebBeetle, a network device that acts as a non-caching proxy server, allowing network Internet access through a single shared modem and phone line. WebBeetle works with Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. Street price is about $155.
EZQuest introduced the AnaBoa, an integrated 2GB Jaz drive and rewritable CD recorder drive designed to simplify CD authoring operations. The AnaBoa performs the functions of three CD drives: a 4x CD-Recordable drive, a 2x CD-Rewritable drive, and a 6x CD-ROM drive that can read pressed CDs, written CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. Street price is $1199.

Deneba Software announced shipment of Canvas 6, an integrated illustration, image editing, page layout, and Web design application. Canvas 6 includes 30,000 clip art illustrations, 2450 URW TrueType and Type 1 fonts, and a 30-minute introductory video. The estimated street price is $375.
MAG InnoScan announced the DTS-3060 desktop scanner. The DTS-3060 uses a pass-through enhanced parallel port interface with 36-bit color and 600-by-1200 resolution. Estimated street price is $149.
MAG also introduced InnoScan, a fingerprint-based biometric security peripheral that can be used to control network and system access, or to lock files and folders on a hard disk. InnoScan is scheduled to begin shipping by the end of the year, with a list price of $199.
LG Electronics unveiled its 18.1-inch LG Studioworks 801LC, a high-end LCD monitor that can display at resolutions from 640 by 480 to 1280 by 1024 at an 85Hz refresh rate and in 24-bit color. The unit will ship in April 1999 at an estimated street price of $2999.
Avid Technology announced Avid Cinema for Windows, a video editing and publishing software package for home and business users. Estimated street price is $139.
Conversational Computing Corporation previewed Conversa Web 3.0, the latest upgrade to its voice-driven Web browser. The 3.0 version will support Voiceable URLs technology, which allows the user to enter a new Web address directly by voice, rather than by typing the URL. Conversa Web 3.0 is scheduled to ship during the first quarter of 1999; pricing is not yet available.
