(IDG) -- The utilities in this week's FileWorld Top Ten specialize
in one thing: handling your audio files on CD. You can
copy audio tracks from CDs directly to your hard disk,
convert the sound formats from one style to another,
track your music library (even while you listen to your
favorite tunes), and juggle various file formats for later
re-recording. They also perform the simplest of
tasks -- playing your CDs.
- CD Copy: This tool lets you move tracks from an
audio CD to your hard disk, and save them as
.wav, RAW, or MPEG files. This version provides
support for MP3 encoding and decoding.
- CD Audio Recorder: This lets you easily record
.wav sounds from your audio CDs. Start the
program, select which CD track you want to
record, and then record it. CD Audio Recorder
also automatically detects disc changes.
- CD Extreme: Pop an audio CD into your
CD-ROM drive, and crank up the tunes with this
feature-laden CD player utility. It comes
complete with a real-time audio analyzer,
miniature control bar, animated eject tray, date
and time feature, 3D interface, CD identification,
AutoPlay, background play, program play,
shuffle play, volume and balance control, LED
display, and custom mouse pointer.
- ScreenDance: This tool plays CDs and creates
animated sequences that coincide with the beat.
ScreenDance comes with a library of
sound-activated visuals you can use to enrich
your audio experience.
- CD Player for Win95: A full-featured CD player
that displays the title of the song, seeks and
skips forward and backward, and can be
configured for both continuous and random play.
- CD-DA Extractor: This utility lets you extract
digital audio files and then easily change them
to .wav, MP3, or RAW files. You can also edit
and save track names, change output levels,
and more. CD-DA Extractor supports DVD-ROM
drives as well as standard ATAPI, SCSI-2, and
SCSI-3 drives.
- CD Player: his utility may be small, but it has
all the features you need and it's compatible
with Windows 3.x and 95.
- CD DiscPlay: Here's an audio CD player and
album-database manager that's easily
customizable, offers integrated access to
Internet album files, and has a fully configurable
interface.
- CD Valet: This audio CD player features the
typical play, pause, and stop features of
physical CD players, and it allows you to
program your playing modes. Multiple drives are
supported for you jukebox users. You can
create a database of your current titles and
retrieve information from commercial CDDB sites
to import artist names and track titles.
- CD MiniBar: This feature-rich utility bar allows
for fast programming and immediate play of any
track. It also displays time, shows graphs of
disk and memory usage, and offers a
customizable calendar.
