(IDG) -- Tame those unruly files and folders with these user favorites. You can print directories (from Windows!), catalog your media files, and determine what's really hogging the most hard disk space. Each of these utilities will be a welcome addition to your tools arsenal.
- DiskData: Figure out which files to archive or when to partition your hard drive based on how much space each folder, subfolder, and file takes up.
- Directory Printer: Windows 95 and 98 don't let you print directories from Explorer. But with Directory Printer, you can print a single directory or an entire tree or export the directory listing.
- Discomania: Control your files once and for all with this free cataloging utility for hard drives, floppy disks, and CD-ROMs. Discomania lets you create an index, add comments to your file lists, and search the catalog to find the file you need.
- Treesize Professional: Want to know how much space those folders and subfolders are really using? Treesize will tell you. Results can easily be printed, and the Explorer-like interface is friendly. This version can export data to Excel or ASCII.
- FileNotes: This utility lets you keep notes about all of your Windows 95 files and folders. You can also use it to copy and paste descriptions directly from Web pages. FileNotes can display information in Explorer, and the Open/Save As dialog box lets you add associated notes.
- Drag and File Gold: You can add new file-management features to Explorer including FTP, dual-window viewing, file filtering, and toolbars.
- Servant Salamander: Miss the old File Manager from Windows 3.x days? Then you'll enjoy this replacement, which works for Windows 95 and NT. Salamander will do all the usual File Manager tasks, plus it can calculate occupied space by directory and print reports.
- Treesize Personal: Display the size of folders and subfolders in an Explorer-like window. Results can easily be printed, and you'll find the interface friendly and familiar.
- AnyWhere 98: Add file copying and moving to the Send-to context menu. You can copy or move files or folders from one location to another by right-clicking one or more icons and choosing from the Send-to menu. You can even create directories as you move and copy items.
- Doc*Master: If your documents menu has become unmanageable, use this utility to get it back on track. Delete documents or organize them into groups, and put programs into submenus.
