Microsoft's IE4 homepage

You're a busy person. You've got work to do. There's no reason you should browse like everybody else, fighting your way out of annoying frames, clicking incessantly to bring up the tools you need to finish the job. A few good tips for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 can speed your way.

Escaping the Trap

Have you ever been happily surfing the Web when, almost without warning, you find yourself caught in a frame trap? You keep on browsing, but everywhere you go, the pages remain in the frame.

Don't close your connection just to escape the frame. Instead, right-click the URL you want to visit and choose Open in New Window.

Mission Control, Prepare to Launch

If you use IE4's Active Desktop, you can easily add a shortcut to the Control Panel in the Quick Launch toolbar. Just right-click the desktop and choose New, Folder. Name the folder ControlPanel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} exactly as shown here. I suggest that you copy this line and paste it into the new folder's name. Press Enter when you're done.

The new Control Panel folder is now on your desktop. Right-click and drag the folder to the Quick Launch toolbar. When you release the mouse button, a menu will open; choose Move Here.

Send This to Pat

IE4 makes it easy for you to send a Web page along to a friend. Just navigate to the page you want to send, then choose File, Send, Page by E-mail. When Outlook Express opens, enter the address and click Send. That's all there is to it.

Note: If the page you're sending has frames, you'll be offered the option of sending it as a read-only page or as an attachment.

Dualing Browsers

People who are thinking of installing IE4 often ask us if you can run it with other browsers. The answer is yes, and no. You can't run Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3 on the same computer unless you're running them in two separate operating systems, such as Windows 95 and NT. When you install IE4 on a system that's running IE3, say good-bye to the earlier version. However, you can run IE4 (or 3) along with any Netscape browser.
