Man who admitted killing 17 people executed in Arizona

(Florence, Arizona) -- Convicted killer Douglas Edward Gretzler has been executed by injection in Arizona.
He spent 22 years on the state's Death Row -- longer than any other Arizona inmate. Gretzler -- who reportedly wrote apologies to his victim's families -- was put to death Wednesday for the 1973 murders of a Tucson couple.
Gretzler and an accomplice had actually admitted killing 17 people in all during a rampage across Arizona and California. Gretzler's accomplice died in prison in 1987.
