Trial begins in death of mother of Mississippi school-shooting suspect

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Philadelphia, Mississippi) -- A jury has been selected in the trial of Luke Woodham -- who's accused of killing his mother, then killing two classmates at his high school.

The jurors chosen Monday in Mississippi will decide whether the 17-year-old is guilty of hacking his mother to death last October.

Woodham faces a separate trial for allegedly opening fire at his school, killing two students and wounding seven others.

Woodham's attorneys are expected to pursue an insanity defense.

Opening statements are to begin Tuesday.

If convicted of his mother's death, Woodham could get up to life in prison.
