DALLAS (CNN) -- A high-tech oven that cooks pizzas in less
than two minutes and cinnamon rolls within six seconds may
soon be available for kitchens nationwide.
The maker of the oven, known as TurboChef, hopes to begin
marketing a home version sometime next year, and boasts that
its product will revolutionize cooking in the next century.
"Our technology is shattering every preconception about how
good food is served," its Web site says.
Currently, the TurboChef is only available for restaurants
and other culinary insiders.
The oven cooks food 10 to 15 times faster than conventional
ovens, grills and microwaves. A 16-inch pizza, which normally
takes 8 to 12 minutes to cook, is ready in only 75 seconds.
Roasted chicken takes 85 seconds. A juicy steak cooks in 60
seconds.
The shiny stainless steel oven can even cook raw meat,
seafood and chicken simultaneously without mixing flavors,
the TurboChef company boasts. And it uses
less electricity than a typical oven.
The oven features nine different cooking systems that allow
the chef to broil, bake, roast, grill, steam, fry or poach
without affecting quality or taste. Chefs can pre-set up to
108 food items, and even customize their own cook settings.
"It makes (the chef's) job a whole lot easier, and it makes
the customer happy because the product coming out is
consistent and good every single time," said chef Mark
Lomberg, whose kitchen has a TurboChef.

The oven's secret is the way in which the oven transfers heat
from moving air to the food. By drawing energy when needed
and managing air internally, the oven is highly efficient.
"The nice part about cooking chicken in this type of
technology is that it cooks from within," explained Steven
Leipsner, the company's former CEO. "You will have a
temperature well over 160 degrees (Fahrenheit) for over 30
minutes after you take it out."
