ATLANTA (CNN) -- CNN Interactive on Wednesday unveiled a
customized news Web site developed in partnership with
database software company Oracle Corp.
The site (http://cnn.com/CustomNews) was introduced at the
Spring Comdex show here in a joint presentation by Ted
Turner, vice chairman of CNN parent Time Warner Inc., and
Larry Ellison, Oracle's chairman and chief executive.
The site offers free personalized news and information,
allowing users to choose from more than 300 categories of
news topics.
Users will be able to view text, pictures and video of CNN
stories, which can be organized using searching technology
supplied by Oracle.
"The only good news I see is that Microsoft (stock) went down
more than we did," joked Ellison, taking a jab at Oracle's
main rival as he demonstrated the customized service.
Oracle's Web Application Server and ConText Option software
were used to design the site and give it its personalized
attributes.
CNN Interactive will continue to operate its original site
(http://cnn.com), which offers news in a more general manner.
