WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The federal government would provide some commonly requested government services via the Internet by the year 2000 under a White House plan to be unveiled Tuesday.
The plan is part of Vice President Gore's reinventing government project.
A Clinton administration report will propose the government deliver services as well as information on the Internet, officials tell CNN. Part of the plan calls for setting up Internet terminals at federal buildings and schools.
The timetable spelled out in the report is to start pilot programs by the beginning of next year.
The online services to be proposed include:
- allowing college students to apply for and get answers to loan requests, and to receive funds in online transfers;
- providing police with instant access to fingerprints and
criminal records;
- letting potential home buyers check for environmental problems in areas where they are thinking of moving.
