Special: Companion to CNN's half-hour special 'Our Digital Future'

Where is the next technological wave taking us?

Remember life before cell phones and pagers, e-mail, voice mail and the Internet? Some would prefer a return to those quiet days, while others wonder how they managed to get anything done.

While some of us are still adjusting to the fax machine, a new generation of digital products has arrived. The optimists say they will make our lives easier, while the pessimists say they will only take more precious time away from us.

Video Segments

CNN takes a look at the new digital tools and how they will change the lives of some while leaving others in the dark. And CNN's Hilary Bowker and Time magazine's Walter Isaacson sit down at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to talk about the future of digital technology with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and Intel Chairman Andrew Grove.
