Dior à la Hollywood
What kind of world does John Galliano inhabit? Once again, the designer dreamed up a glorious Hollywood-like fanfare for Christian Dior. This time he staged his show on the sweeping monumental staircase of the Paris Opera house with models perched high on their heels and excessively elegant.
This season's inspiration comes from the Marquesa Casati, turn-of-the century Italian aristocrat and friend of the painters Boldini and Van Dongen. Galliano's couture is "haute, very haute." But alas, a bit retro in the end. His fashion is sublime - but dated. One innovation to note was the" Lotus line," a new version of the Christian Dior peplum suit, featuring fitted jacket with pagoda sleeves.
