Show us your calves, guysPushing pedal-pushers on menAugust 12, 1999 NEW YORK (CNN) -- Capris, pedal pushers, clam diggers, flood pants -- call them what you will -- the three-quarter-length trousers are crossing gender boundaries. At least, that's what some ready-to-wear houses -- Perry Ellis, BCBG and others -- would like us to think, as they crop their pants for men and try to get guys to wear them. "I think in the summer it's adorable," one woman says, "and if they have cute ankles." Thanks, lady -- yours are cute, too -- but it's a trend that may not be hitting its high-water mark anytime soon. "You need a lot of nerve to wear that in public," one man says. "I work at a bank and anything goes, almost," another says. "But I don't think that's gonna go." One man was willing to put the pants to the test: "I wore them to work yesterday, and I still have a job." That guy must sit behind a desk all day.
