WILKES-BARRE, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Not so long ago, little girls dressed up as witches for Halloween and little boys as vampires.
But if you answer your door this year expecting darling demons, you're likely to be truly frightened by what passes for ghoulish.
Judging from some of the more popular costumes, you might just opt for a trick instead of a treat.
Naturally, O.J. Simpson and Judge Ito are big hits this year, as are the ever-popular Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. This year's darling is predictably Pocahontas.
But for something truly ghastly, take a stroll through your local costume store.
"This is called the jawbreaker," said one clerk, showing a latex mask of a head with a bloody jaw torn from the face. "This is the premium horror kids mask of this year. There's no doubt about it." (502K QuickTime movie)
Maurita Elias said one of the most popular Halloween items in her store is the blood capsule, a packet you bite down on to make it appear as if blood is pouring from your mouth.
How much will all this fun will cost you? A Judge Ito mask sells for about $24. Other masks go from $6 to $60. But if you want to go all out, the Grim Reaper will cost you $150 a night. And that's truly frightening.
