(CNN) -- Hong Kong politics are by definition in a state of flux -- the government is going through a process of development following the territory's shift from British to Chinese control.
Throughout this transition, the Democratic Party has been one of the leading political voices on the island, and one loud in its opposition to Beijing.
CNN Hong Kong Bureau Chief Mike Chinoy reports that a shifting public mood and the party's own internal politics now have the Democrats scrambling to maintain a leading role on an increasingly crowded and competitive political stage.
