3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment

Deployed to: An official III Corps statement said the soldiers are being deployed to "support the global war on terrorism."
Units: The 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment's 5,200 soldiers make up a highly mobile force equipped with heavy tanks, armored personnel carriers and helicopter gunships. The regiment, which took part in the 1991 Persian Gulf War, is part of an estimated 28,000-strong deployment of "follow-on forces" that may not arrive until after the onset of war.
The 4th Infantry Division's (mechanized) 3rd Brigade, or "Iron Brigade," consists of two mechanized infantry battalions, a tank battalion, a combat engineer battalion, a field artillery battalion and a forward-support battalion. Support units include a reconnaissance troop, an air-defense battery, a military intelligence company and a signal company.
Duties: The 3rd Brigade is the mechanized infantry brigade for the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), which is based at Fort Hood, Texas.
