On June 28, 2004, Al-Jazeera reported that it had received a statement and a videotape from militants who claimed to have killed Maupin. U.S. officials confirmed on March 29, 2008 that human remains recovered in Iraq were Maupin's. Maupin was promoted in absentia on May 1, 2004, from private first class to specialist. He was promoted to sergeant in April 2005 and later to staff sergeant. (Full story) |
