Leaders of the Pacific Rim nations, representing 2.5 billion people with a combined economic output of more than $18 trillion, have vowed to get even tougher on terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Wrapping up their two-day summit in Bangkok, heads from the 21 APEC member economies also urged a peaceful resolution to the North Korean nuclear crisis and called for an early resumption of multi-party talks to resolve the standoff.

On the economic front, APEC leaders said they were committed to advancing free trade "in a coordinated manner among multilateral, regional and bilateral frameworks so that they are complementary and mutually enforcing."

APEC's economies account for more than 47 percent of world trade..
