Units: Members of the 32nd AAMDC's missile defense program, charged with operating Patriot missile batteries, have been sent to the Gulf region for at least the fourth time in the last four years. About 850 soldiers were in the region on January 14, as was most of the units' equipment, with another 300 expected in the coming weeks.
Duties: These units provide air defense from incoming missiles, such as Iraqi Scuds, with advanced PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles. In December 1998, the unit deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Desert Fox, which was a joint U.S.-British four-day strike on Iraq in response to Iraq's refusal to cooperate with U.N. weapons inspectors.
