Units: The orders affect companies A and B from the 4th Battalion, which is nicknamed the "Polar Bears." The battalion is part of the 10th Mountain Division's 31st Infantry Regiment.
Duties: The 10th Mountain Division is a specially tailored infantry division that is expected to be ready to deploy by air, sea or land 96 hours after being notified of deployment orders.
10th Mountain soldiers, including those from the 4th Battalion, participated in Operation Anaconda in March 2002. Soldiers from the division also provided security at an airfield in Uzbekistan that the U.S. military used.
