According to the Royal Navy, 250 Royal Marines have left the Ocean for Afghanistan along with nearly 180 personnel from 845 and 847 Naval Air Squadrons, flying Sea King, Lynx and Gazelle helicopters. The 18 Naval Air Squadron, flying Chinook helicopters, also have flown off the Ocean to Afghanistan.

Seven other ships are a part of the British maritime task force, including the air defense destroyer HMS York, frigate HMS Campbeltown, the supply ships Fort George and Fort Rosalie, and amphibious cargo ships Sir Tristram and Sir Percivale. The latter four ships are manned by civilians and are part of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service.
