Taiwan's parliamentary polls

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wins

President Chen Shui-bian's DPP victory will change the political landscape of Taiwan. The DPP has become the biggest group in the legislature ending the parliamentary majority of the former ruling Kuomintang party.

Chen's party did not win an outright majority and is expected to form a coalition with other parties aimed at breaking the legislative deadlock that has paralyzed his administration. Top of the agenda: an ailing economy and relations with mainland China.
