USS Independence
- Based in Yokosuka, Japan
The USS Independence, with a crew of 5000, is a one of the oldest carriers in the U.S. fleet, commissioned in 1959. As a Forrestal class carrier it was one of the first designed and built specifically to operate jet-propelled
aircraft. The Independence replaced the USS Nimitz in February,after arriving
from its home port of Yokosuka, Japan.
