Show of ForceAllied AircraftThe huge complement of U.S. forces in the Persian Gulf region includes more than 300 aircraft, including fighter jets, heavy bombers and attack helicopters. The contingent includes aircraft stationed in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Turkey as well as B-52s and tanker planes stationed at Diego Garcia. Though 100 planes -- half of them combat jets -- are based in Saudi Arabia, the U.S. is unlikely to launch the fighters having failed to secure Saudi support for a bombing strike. © 1997 Cable News Network, Inc.
