    Military equipment

    There are currently about 30,000 U.S. military personnel in the Gulf region. This number includes the sailors aboard two aircraft carrier groups -- the USS George Washington and the USS Independence -- and a total of 28 ships sailing in the Gulf.

    There are also a total of about 320 strike and support aircraft in the region, including aircraft stationed in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Turkey as well as B-1 bombers and tanker planes stationed at Diego Garcia.
