Some final words
The Oscar winners in the press room ended up running well behind the actual show -- the producer who accepted the award for "The Departed" finished up around 10:35 p.m. PT, or more than an hour after the Oscars ended.

The final four honored individuals to troop into the press room -- actors Forest Whitaker and Alan Arkin, actress Helen Mirren and director Martin Scorsese -- were thoughtful in their answers to the sometimes repetitious questions of the reporters.

Whitaker on paying tribute to his ancestors: "I'm standing on a lot of people's shoulders."

Arkin on acting awards: "This is not about furlongs. I don't believe in competition between artists. ... The criteria is very shadowy. I don't keep score." And why, then, did the Academy give him the Oscar? "I haven't got a clue."

Mirren on her training: "The roles that really bring you to this point [are in] the theater work I do."

And Scorsese, obviously pleased to be holding the golden statuette, but still getting ready for something new:

"I'm glad it's taken this long," he said in his rat-a-tat-tat New York accent. "It's been worth it. ... [But] if I don't win the awards, fine. [As long as I] keep making the pictures."
The Departed sure rules. Some thought, however, the Oscars need to add more categories.. like this post from Cairo
http://cairofreeze.blogspot.com/2007/02/cairo-freeze-special.html
absolutely ridiculous in length...what was that absurd chorus of sound with crickets and wind...not too mention the dancers behind the curtain...save it for the Tony's---I am a fool for watching the entire thing.
What a disappointment!!!!

Babel no oscars, what a shame!
Little Miss Sunshine, deserved much more as probably Letters from Iwo Jima (an anti-war movie)

The United States are not ready yet to embrace other cultures and minorities in their own countries unless we are talking about the immigrants who are here and people still believe this is the real life in other parts of the world.
After last year diappontment with "Crash" vs "Brokeback Mountain", this year again
"The Departed" vs. "Babel", another film of violence with no hope for the future wins as best picture.
How can you have "The Departed" win Best Director and Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay when the movie is the exact same thing as the Hong Kong movie "Infernal Affairs", except for a small bit in the end? Hello? They copied someone else's movie. Its just like when Judith Dench won Best Supporting Actress for her 5 minutes of screen time in a two hour movie.
A very boring Oscar show!
Once again, the show was too long and mostly a snore, and Degeneres wasn't that entertaining as a host. Some of the non-major awards should go to another separate show. In a joint presentation, "Queen" Latifah showed her contempt for the proper usage of the English language, including her apparent poor level of, or lack thereof of education, by repeatedly mispronouncing the word "lyrics", a word intrinisic to the award she was presenting in the music category. Someone should inform this "star" that the correct pronounciation of the word "lyrics" has the final "s" pronounced. The award wasn't being given out for one "lyric", but plural, as in lyrics. Perhaps she should've "axed" someone how to say all of her words correctly.
The Oscar this year was very representative of our changing country. I was very please to see a multicultural mix of actors representing different culturals portraying complex and intresting roles---not only have you gone green you are in touch with a very diverse society. Way to go Oscar!!!!
Who was producing the Oscars this year...two words ...TOO LONG!

AND...Supporting actress category is ALWAYS FIRST up ...why did she put it somewhere in the middle...To the Academy members bring back previous years' producer this years' producer ...Fired!
Since the Oscars went "green" I wonder how many stars walked to the Oscars instead of taking a limo, or took mass transit or rode a bike?
Glad to see Marty finally win, but would have been happier if he actually won for an original creation.
By the way, I would like to point out that when "The Departed" won Best Adapted Screenplay, the announcer said it was based on the Japanese film "Infernal Affairs. Correction on that. "Infernal Affairs" is from Hong Kong, NOT Japan. It was a mistake, just a dumb and disrespectful one. At least Scorsese acknowledged the original creators correctly.
To: The Academy
Subject: Serious mistake on your broadcast

To Whom It May Concern:

Dear Sir,

I would like to call to your attention the serious mistake that was broadcast in the 79th Academy Awards, held on Sunday, 25th February, 2007.

Directly after the winner for Writing (Adapted Screenplay) was announced, your Academy Award voiceover stated that "The Departed" was adapted from a Japanese film.

As I am sure you are aware, this is not the case. "The Departed" was adapted from a Hong Kong film. To clarify, Hong Kong is located in China, which is a completely different country from Japan.

I consider this an ignorant, offensive and serious mistake. I do not understand how those responsible for the broadcast did not research or check their sources before announcing it on live television.

Therefore I find it doubly ironic that the Academy represented the awards show as "international", when it fails to get such basic facts straight.

I am so angry that this unfortunate event has occurred that I am moved to request that the Academy make a public apology. This apology should be addressed to the original team involved in "Infernal Affairs" and to the people of Hong Kong. I also request that a correction is published visibly online, so that all viewers to your website are informed of this error, and are directed to more informed sites regarding Hong Kong cinema.

I hope that you will address this situation with the utmost urgency and due respect.
The show is so loooong and so boring. Who made it? no any surpirse!
What a disappointment!

and also found a stupid mistake.
Best adapted screenplay - sThe Departedt based on a Japanese film sInfernal Affairst????
God! this is from Hongkong, that's a chinese movie.
Shouldn't everything be written down on that tiny paper in the envelop?

Really stupid mistake on the Oscar.

Great show or not?lol....
Max from New York, who believes that the US lifestyle is how the world lives??? the Oscars had quite a bit of foreign movies in it.

Besides, movies do not depict "real life". Real life is much, much, more complex than a movie with a finite amount of time can emulate.

Our movies don't even present OUR reality. It is foolhardy than to expect to them to present the real lives of peoples in foreign lands.
I think it was a great show. And the best of the best was that Martin Sorese won his best director award. He is a true champion and I really admire him and his belief on doing the movies. The Departed is the American version of the moive from Hong Kong. It is not copying anything, and it is truly a great work from directing, producing and acting.
I am so happy for Jennifer, Forrest and Martin and Helen because these were not only my favorites but I believe they deserved it. As for the comments from Terry in Chicago against the Queen (Latifah). Terry who obviously is so unhappy with his own life that he must attack others who are far better people than he or she will ever be...funny how Terry attacked Latifah but not Clint Eastwood, things that make you go HMMMMMMM!Terry stick that in your dictionary! Now Diane in Boston FYI it was announced last night before the show that over 30% of the stars had opted not to use a limo but "green friendly vehicles" and were given red carpet parking status, just thought you should know.
As supportive as all the Hollywood stars seemed last night in regards to Al Gore's call for environmental concerns, I would love to know if recycling was taking place at the after Oscar's parties, if anyone rode to and from in a carpool, and how many truly are active in adjusting their lives to protect our environment. Would any of them stand up to the production companies on the set of their movies if the company is acting in a non-evironmentally friendly way.
There is more to saving our wolrd than lending you face and words at a high-profile event that shine's you in a favorable light.
The Oscars need to eliminate the short
documentary and humanitarian awards
from the broadcast, also when a large
group(editors,writers,etc.)get an
award only 1 person should speak for
the group this would shorten a too
long show.
I thought Ellen did OK,not the best
but no way David Letterman(ugh!).But
I think the Academy should ask Jerry
Seinfeld to host next year he was
funnier in 2 minutes than almost any
other host I have seen, loved the stuff
about the theaters wanting you to clean up the $6.00 popcorn(yeah,right-when pigs fly).
Jennifer Hudson is living proof that
Simon is a lousy judge of talent.
Finally 3 cheers for Marty he was way
due.
Simon is a lousy judge of talent.
I just have to say that I can't believe that even though this year is the most internationally diverse group of nominees they made a mistake with the countries. Didn't they think to check over the script when the voice of the academy introduce/tell us something about the winner of the award. Yes, even though there were a lot of Japanese in the audience, they still can't mixed up Japanese and Hong Kong (it's so different). For the Best Adapted Screenplay the winner was The Departed which was adapted from a Hong Kong movie not a Japanese movie. I was so surprise by this.
The only thing more boring than hollywood and the oscars are the mindless masses who finds this interesting.
Little Miss Sunshine was dear to my heart, and I was glad that Alan Arkin won the Oscar. He won for the ensemble cast. All the other winners were also well deserved. Ennio Morricone's scores were fantastic!

Subject: Serious mistake on your post

To Whom It May Concern:

Dear Madam,

I would like to call to your attention the serious mistake that was posted to a CNN blog today.

Directly after reading your post, I had to make sure that I was not reading www.theacademyawardsguys.com.

As I am sure you are aware, this is not the case. CNN is a source of international news and has nothing to do with the production of the Academy Awards telecast. To clarify, CNN.com is a completely different website than the one associated with the Oscars. Just because you read about it here doesn't mean it happened here.

I consider this an ignorant, offensive and serious mistake. I do not understand how you did not research or check your sources before posting it here.

Therefore I find it doubly ironic that you, apparently a well-educated person, would so virulently condemn this website for something is has absolutely no connection to.

I am so angry that this unfortunate event has occurred that I am moved to request that you make a public apology. This apology should be addressed to anyone who suffered through your sabre-rattling post and to the entire internet community. I also request that you take a picture of yourself outside your home wearing a sign that says "CNN is not everyone in the U.S.!", so that all readers of your post are informed of this error, and are directed to more informed sites regarding knowing who you're actually talking to.

I hope that you will address this situation with the utmost sarcasm and due ridicule.
Bring back Billy Crystal
why can'nt someone funny like me host a oscar show. Sure i'm a unknown but think of all the fun the pressure would be. And i bet i would be funnier than what's her name??????
Which do you think really doomed Gore more - multiple recounts on hanging chads (after the multiple recounts, like it or not, it was imperically determined that Bush did in fact win, no matter how ugly the process had been) or Clinton who 1) flat-out lied to the nation (like "Read my lips; I will not raise taxes", the statement "I did not have inappropriate relations..." just turned out to be entirely false), 2) cheated on his wife, and 3) used his tax-payer suported office like a pay-per-hour motel. Not to mention all the other scandals; fiscal and relational.

I'm a moderate who would have voted his way had he (and the political left, including mainstream media) been more critical of Bill's behavior.

All that being said, he would made 10x the president Kerry would have. Gore should have run in '04.
