The crowd loves 'Sunshine'
The crowd is behind Little Miss Sunshine for best picture, based on applause solicited by TCM's Robert Osborne.
Sushine was total CRAP. Sure, encourage little girls to dance in front of crowds like total sluts. That people would even remotely like this movie shows how far down the moral pole America has fallen.
You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. "Little Miss Sunshine" is "Napoleon Dynamite," with a bigger budget, more recognized stars, and obviously more of the production company's marketing.
All the basic elements of NP are in LMS. Nutty, off-the-rack characters, with a twist; America's heart as found in the masses; and most importantly the values found in keeping the family intact. NP's dance was multiplied by 4, plus the little girl, in LMS. This was the self-sacrifice shown as the climax in both films. LMS has the numbers, NP had originality. Best picture should go to the Departed. It's long overdue for Scorcese.
Personally, I was more disturbed by the other beauty pagent girls. Creepy.
someone owed arkin something--
both murphy & other nominees for this award were victims . HOW COULD SOMEONE WHO SPENT HALF THE MOVIE AS A DEAD PERSON STUFFED IN A CAR TRUNK END UP WITH AN OSCAR ??
That "Little Miss Sunshine" was nominated over a masterpiece like "Apocolypto" is beyond me. The obvious contempt Mel Gibson is shown in Hollywood is unconscionable.
Sad...SAD....this was just a piece of nonsense and....something like a made for TV movie....Oscar material....not. Having this movie, Little Miss Sunshine winning an Oscar is an insult to all past and future winners....SAD!
NO, Troy, it wasn't encouraging little girls to dance like that, it was actually making fun of the scary (as another blogger said) little made up dolls whose mommies are shoving them into the limelight. Along comes an innocent girl who really wants to win by being normal with normal looks and, yes, unfortunately has a funny grandpa who didn't quite teach her the right routine. This was supposed to be comedic while still showing how ridiculous it is behind the scenes at these little tramp pageants.
