Beautiful seat fillers
As I was walking over to the press room, I passed a long line of beautifully dressed people waiting in a single-file line. They weren't celebrities, but they were lottery winners of a sort: They are seat fillers.
When an Oscar winner is chosen and rises from his or her seat, a seat-filler takes the spot. That way the Kodak Theatre looks continually packed -- and colorful. 4 Comments

in the late 70s, a friend of mine was a seat filler. the highlight of her evening was meeting barbra streisand, who she said was gracious and warm.
"Miss Anderson, can you describe to me your prior Hollywood experience?"
"Uh yes, I once sat in Tom Cruise's seat at the Oscars when he ran up to tee up an Award. My body became one with his, transferred via the bodyheat from his buttocks." "Great! When can you start?" "How about next Tuesday?"
One of my greatest Hollywood experiences was in the Pavillions grocery store and was honored by standing next to none other than Vincent Price and listening to him order "I'd like a quarter pound of smoked turkey." I've never been so horrified in my life....! That voice was mesmerizing.
