Globes, the next day
"Hollywood's biggest party" went off without a hitch. Forest Whitaker gave one of the most genuine acceptance speeches. In fact, he really was at a loss for words, getting emotional and giving us all a real glimpse of what it was to be grateful.

On the other end of things, Sacha Baron Cohen -- aka Borat -- had the house in stitches with a hilarious speech. He may have checked Borat at the door, but the crazy Kazakh journalist was definitely there in spirit.

On the carpet it was a feast for the eyes as the stars showed off their fashion savvy. There was lots of white, but overall color prevailed, with green, royal blue and purple taking center stage.

Looking like a purple princess was the very pretty "Ugly Betty." TV star America Ferrera told me she was proud to be nominated for a show that projected a great message.

Overall, the Golden Globes provided a night of celebration. Now, off to the next big awards show -- the mack-daddy of them all -- the Academy Awards!
HEY! Don't forget Hugh Laurie won 2nd Award for Best Actor in a series...even had a good unprepared speech! Congrats to all the runners-up!
First of all, Forest Whitaker's speech fell completely short of anything genuine; don't mistake his loss for words for projecting any sincere appreciation or thanks. He blew his chance at, what Tom O'Neill would say, 'The Oscar Audition.' His eyes were heavy, he had a drunken pose, and it seemed as if he were just came out of a boxing match - unable to breath, totally restless, ungrateful, and thinking only about his next move. Seriously, if you're so flabbergasted as to be actually speechless, don't just wobble there, stroking your sweaty nose like an imbecile and mumbling incoherently. I bet he didn't even know what award he held.

Secondly, Cohen's acceptance speech was pure comedy - laughs all around. Why is this bad? Think about the idea of his movie - an ironic realization of the hypocrisy and racism that goes on in everyday America. He could have showcased the film by doing a few laughs, yes, OK, but then get to why your art is socially important. By appearing in character in every talk show to promote the movie, and to now accept an award with no more than a series of jokes, Cohen lets his film go toward the category of pure comedy rather than a social critique. Use the podium as an opportunity to say what couldn't be said on screen.
I thought the Golden Globes were excellent this year although I was hoping Leonardo Di Caprio would win for best actor. Meryl Streeps speech was great. That woman has so much class and she is good at both drama and comedy.
I loved the Tim Allen comment he made about Vanessa Williams!!! Classic! Does anyone know where I can get a clip of it?

Big Kudos to Dreamgirls and Forest Whitaker!
I thought the GG's were well done. I was watching 24 the first section of the show but tuned in later. Loved Hugh Laurie's speech. What I would like to know is WHY in this world would DONALD TRUMP be worthy of a star on Hollywood walk of fame???? He's not an actor or director etc. Now if they had a Village Idiot sidewalk I would say good on him. You know and I know he bought it himself for damage control.
Hurray for Jennifer Hudson. Although she was the "American Idol" she came out on top. Way to go Jennifer.
I loved the Globes. Hugh Lauries speech was great and so was Meryl Streeps.
I think Forrest Whittaker was just shocked to receive the award, everyone thought it would go to Will SMith, he eve thought that. He didn't look drunk to me like somene mentioned earlier..he was just unprepared and at a loss of words just like you would be if you were up against say Clint Eastwood and won!
Congratulations to the "Queen", the cast of Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty. I've never watched that show but now I will!
The only part of the Globe Awards that were offensive was Cohen and Hanks. Better for me if they remained home. Everyone else showed a renewed elegance in their glamour, behaviour and acceptance speeches. There is hope for us yet.
"ditto" to Pittsford, NY's comments. Cant stand Cohen (big ego...big time). And Hanks, what where you thinking!? This is your one allowable BIG OOPS....next time; no forgiving.
