Welcome to the Marquee
Welcome to The Marquee, the new blog from CNN.com’s Entertainment section. We hope you’ll find it, well, entertaining – or at least not sleep-inducing. (We take no credit for sleep incurred after midnight.)
Madonna’s appearance on “Oprah” was taped yesterday and aired today, with the one-time Material Girl stressing motherhood over celebrity. David Banda, the 13-month-old she hopes to adopt, is “amazing,” she said. She also complained about media attention to the whole episode. Defamer, as it usually does, expressed skepticism and a “Daily Madonna” post at Big Pictures Celebrity Pix noted that the singing star isn’t usually so publicity-shy. On the other hand, Hollywood blogger Janet Charlton put her opinion in all caps: STOP PICKING ON MADONNA. Want to chime in? Click here or leave a comment at the bottom. It ran a few days ago, but if you haven’t seen it, the Washington Post has a terrific profile of “Doonesbury’s” Garry Trudeau by Gene Weingarten. The cartoonist has earned praise for his storyline featuring B.D., the Walden football coach who lost a leg in Iraq. And if you haven’t taken the Ken Jennings quiz yet, try your hand. All of the questions come from Jennings’ book “Brainiac” with the exception of the last -- one that Jennings couldn’t answer.
The fact of the matter is this: the law in Malawi states that you have to stay there for 18 months for evaluation. Why is Madonna any different from anyone else? Why do those rules not apply to her? If I had gone there to adopt a child, would that judge ruled the same?
Madonna, show us that other normal, non-wealthy people have been granted the same privileges you have by that government, then maybe people will see your side of things.
Is madonna someone you would want to babysit your child? NO. So why should she be allowed to adopt ANY child? If the father is currently expressing a desire that the child not be adopted, she should do the right thing and give the kid back. Madonna, 'give it up' .
first of all SHAME ON THE MEDIA for trying to trash madonna and the adoption, stop posting so much death on television and making everyone swallow THE STUPID WAR,what color our fear should be daily and so on! I dare the media to go to malawi and do what madonna has done with this child whom she did NOT have to allow into her life! AMERICAN MEDIA loves to pick on madonna, BUT she still hs more balls tha most american men do, I commend madonna all the way! cut her some slack poeple, shame on the media for trying to turn this into a circus, but it does make you money..I forgot. SCUM will be scum.
Whether or not Madonna is receiving preferential treatment is irrelivant to what she is actually trying to accomplish. If she is being treated differently so what, she's giving a child a life he might not have if left in the bowels of Africa's poverty. Leave the girl alone and let her adopt this child in peace. The media needs to back off.
I just want to know why adopting a native child from a third world country seems to be the new Prada bag for these stars.
Malawi's law is crazy. They cannot begin to properly take care of their orphaned children who are in desperate need of help. They should be begging for the assistance of anyone in the world who will help by adopting these precious children. These children are being forgotten by overwhelmed and possibly corrupt governments.
Madonna is a hero in this situation. If her wealth and celebrity made it possible to help this child, the only problem is that we are not all wealthy celebrities able to do the same.
seriously, what is people's problem. I read some of the comments on here and it is clear people don't have the facts. Madonna followed all the rules for adopting this child. She is spending millions to set up care for similar children in Malawi. What's the problem here. This child will have a better life and be able to provide a voice and a face for the crisis these people are facing. I feel like these morons who complain about it and ingest anything the media says or insinuates, are the same people who complain about stars that live lavishly or blow money on expensive clothes or cars, and now a celeb is trying to use their money to improve a life and they complain about that. get of your high horse. get a life. and adopt your own child or give a percent of your money to charity if you're gonna complain about others who do. (and yes i've adopted and give to charity...it's wonderful)
Bravo Madonna! |
