Australian heartbreaker out to make it in Los Angeles
June 23, 1999 From Gloria Hillard "I just figured it was time to come out here and mix with the best," he says. "I mean this is a mecca for people back in Australia. This is the place."
At home, Hunt starred as Ryan Scheppers in a television show called "Heartbreak High." "My show was big in Australia. But until you've proven yourself over here in America you're basically an unknown." The actor has been in Los Angeles since January. And with programmers looking for shows focusing on young characters, the auditions have been plentiful. Hunt was trying out for as many as three pilots a day in the spring. He was cast in the WB pilot "Eli's Theory." Hunt credits his good fortune to a savvy casting agent. "What a good casting agent does is put you at ease. You feel good about what you're doing, and you do a good job. So I think that's what happened. I hope that's what happened," Hunt says. While Los Angeles is where the work is, Australia is where his heart is. "I'll work there again, and I'll live there again. But for the moment this is the place to be."
