Estrada, Wilcox are 'CHiPs' off the old block

Web posted on: Monday, October 26, 1998 5:27:52 PM

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- America's fascination with TV shows about cops has never waned. In fact, one cop show was so popular in the 1970s, it's making a comeback today.

"CHiPs '99" is a two-hour TNT movie reuniting the original "CHiPs," California motorcycle cops Jon Baker (Larry Wilcox) and Francis "Ponch" Poncherella (Erik Estrada). The original show was a huge hit in the disco era before faltering in the early '80s.

This is supposed to be a one-time reunion. But if ratings are good, don't be surprised to see more next year.

Correspondent Ron Tank spoke with Estrada and Wilcox about their lives since the first "CHiPs," and whether or not they can still fit into those tight motorcycle outfits.
