McConaughey arrested on alleged drug possessionAUSTIN, Texas (CNN) -- Actor Matthew McConaughey was arrested Monday on drug-related allegations, a spokesman for the Travis County Sheriff's Department says. McConaughey, 29, is to be charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting transport because "he didn't get in the police car," spokesman Curtis Weeks says. McConaughey, a 1993 University of Texas graduate, is a part-time resident of Austin. He has starred in several movies, including this year's "EDtv," "Amistad" (1997), "A Time To Kill" (1996) and "Dazed and Confused" (1993).
Ford walks away from copter mishapFILLMORE, California (CNN) -- Harrison Ford, known for stunts in action films like "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984) and "The Fugitive" (1993), got himself out of a bona fide threat on Saturday. The actor crash-landed a helicopter during a training flight near Lake Piru, some 43 miles (69 kilometers) northwest of Los Angeles, according to Diana Joubert, an operations officer for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Neither Ford nor the instructor was hurt, she says. They were flying a Bell 206 helicopter, practicing a maneuver called auto rotation, when the craft made a hard landing, Joubert says. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
Hospital upgrades Cash's conditionNASHVILLE, Tennessee (CNN) -- Country music legend Johnny Cash has been bearing up in his battle against pneumonia. Doctors upgraded his condition from serious to stable on Sunday, according to a Baptist Hospital spokeswoman. Cash, who made a name for himself with hits such as "I Walk the Line," "Ring of Fire" and "Folsom Prison Blues," was admitted to the hospital on October 17. The 67-year-old 10-time Grammy winner was hospitalized twice in 1998 for pneumonia and has said he nearly died from it last fall. Cash has Shy-Drager syndrome, a degenerative nerve disease like Parkinson's. It makes him more susceptible to pneumonia, according to his manager Lou Robbin. The disease can cause blackouts, tremors and stiff muscles. There's no cure, but the symptoms can be treated with medication.
Barker gets no kick out of NorrisNEW YORK (CNN) -- Game show host Bob Barker tells TV Guide the price of taking karate lessons from martial arts maven Chuck Norris may have been a little too high. The host of CBS' "The Price Is Right," tells the magazine he took quite a few blows from Norris during recent lessons -- possibly causing a blocked artery. Barker, 65, had surgery last month at George Washington University Hospital to relieve what was reported to be an 85-percent blockage of the left carotid artery. "Maybe I should blame it on Chuck Norris," Barker jokes in his interview. "He probably kicked me in the neck. God knows he kicked me everywhere else." CBS says Barker resumes taping his show on a limited schedule Monday, with the normal regimen of weekly tapings to restart on November 8.
CBS declines to 'Work with Me'LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Variety reports CBS has canceled the new sitcom "Work with Me" after four episodes. The show has starred Kevin Pollak and Nancy Travis as husband-and-wife attorneys who work in the same law firm. The latest results from Nielsen ratings suggest several other first-year prime-time series may suffer the same fate, or at least be moved to different time slots, according to the trade publication. FOX's "Action," "Ryan Caulfield, Year One" and "Harsh Realm" top the list with what are said to be record low viewership numbers in their time slots. Other shows that could be in trouble include ABC's "Wasteland," NBC's "Cold Feet" and CBS' "Love & Money." The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.
