Rosie Perez: 'I have the ability'NEW YORK (CNN) -- Rosie Perez says she talked her way into a bigger role in her latest film, "24 Hour Woman." The 34-year-old actress, who has been on a four-year hiatus from the movies because she couldn't find a role that she liked, persuaded director Nancy Savoca she was a different actress than her previous roles. "I said to her, 'I know you think I'm loud because of the press you read, but it's not true. I have the ability to do this -- all I need is the opportunity ... I want the lead and I want to produce. Here's my resume,'" Perez recalled for Sunday's Daily News. "I just got tired of being offered this and that -- I was like 'I'm better than that.'" In the new movie, Perez -- whose high-pitched Brooklyn voice has echoed in movies like "Do The Right Thing" and "It Could Happen To You" -- takes on the role of a "well-rounded, complex" television producer who decides to share her pregnancy with the show's audience.

Watching her ancestor's story played out on stage brought tears to her eyes. Tanya said after the performance that it was the most "special moment" of her life: "Everybody is going to enjoy the musical because the music is so special, the story is so special but to the family it's really true," Tanya said. Now his sights are set firmly on international shores: "It's already the longest running musical in Singapore and it's going to be extended further. We are now working to bring Chang and Eng to Thailand -- it will be a homecoming of sorts because their birth place is in Thailand." Reuters Limited contributed to this report.
