Lee

MALIBU, California (CNN) -- Tommy Lee must go to court again. On Tuesday, Judge Lawrence Mira set a hearing date of February 4 after learning through news reports that Lee had allegedly been drinking with his Motley Crue bandmates in Florida, violating his probation for spousal abuse. Lee, who is the band's drummer, served about four months in jail after pleading no contest to kicking estranged wife Pamela Anderson Lee, the former "Baywatch" star, while she held their son, Dylan. Mira ordered Lee to stay away from alcohol and drugs, donate $5,000 to a battered women's shelter, stay at least 100 yards away from his estranged wife, undergo random drug tests and attend anger management classes.

Sandler
|
HOLLYWOOD (CNN) -- The comedian who shot to stardom as "The Wedding Singer" and "The Waterboy" will have an animated alter ego. Variety reports that Adam Sandler has made a deal with Sony Pictures for an animated musical that will feature a character based on him. The idea for the animated film -- which doesn't yet have a title -- was Sandler's own. The Saturday Night Live alum pitched it to Columbia Pictures president Amy Pascal. Sandler will give his voice to the character as well as his likeness. Because production is likely to take several years, Columbia wants to move ahead quickly with the production, according to Variety. Meanwhile, 1999 is shaping up to be a busy year for the actor, who has signed a $25 million deal to star in two films for New Line Cinema. He is also starring in Columbia's comedy "Big Daddy," with Joey Lauren Adams, which is being positioned for a summer release.
NEW YORK (CNN) -- A Spin magazine editor who is suing Marilyn Manson was fired Tuesday, along with the editor-in-chief of the publication. Craig Marks, who is suing Manson for $24 million for an alleged assault, was fired along with top editor Michael Hirschorn. An insider said Bob Miller, owner of Spin's publisher Miller Publishing Group, cited inadequate gains in circulation and ad sales and "creative differences" as motivating the moves. "We're all totally stunned," said one staffer present when Hirschorn announced his firing. "No one saw this coming. We thought we were putting out a great product." Staffers believe Miller felt Hirschorn's vision for the magazine was too ambitious and that Miller wants a softer, more fan-friendly publication. Marks, who is suing Manson, his music label and his two bodyguards following an incident last November in which he was allegedly pinned against a wall and beaten, had this to say: "I was told that they were making a clean sweep of the magazine's upper ranks."
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (CNN) -- Brazilian pop star Vagner Bastos is missing and feared kidnapped, his agent said on Tuesday. The 32-year-old singer with the group "Os Morenos" (The Dark Ones) was last seen early Monday and has missed several commitments since then, said his agent, Luiz Andrade. "We've looked for him everywhere, in all the places he goes to and we can't find him," Andrade said. TV Globo reported that Bastos left a Rio nightclub and went to a late-night food kiosk just before he went missing. "Os Morenos" started five years ago and has since released four CDs that have sold 300,000 copies.

Domingo (center) as one of The Three Tenors
|
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Placido Domingo wants to find the next opera star. On Tuesday, the tenor announced he will hold Operalia, his annual competition for young opera singers, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, April 2-12. More than 500 singers have sent tapes to the competition's Paris headquarters. Three judges will listen to the tapes and select 40 singers for the competition. The 57-year-old Domingo said he started the competition "because I believe in supporting young people and finding tomorrow's singers. So many singers have a tough time getting on a stage." The Operalia prizes are: $50,000 for first prize, $25,000 for second and $15,000 for third. The final competition will be held as a public concert.
