Jewel being sued by former manager

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Jewel's former manager is suing the folk-pop star, claiming she was fired after Jewel's mother engineered a rift between them. Inga Vainshtein, who says she discovered the 24-year-old singer five years ago in San Diego, filed a $10 million lawsuit Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The suit claims that Jewel's mother, Lenedra Carroll, shadowed Vainshtein as a "co-manager" to learn how to handle Jewel's business affairs, then urged her daughter to fire Vainshtein when she learned enough to do it on her own. Also written in the suit: The claim that Jewel's mother also told the singer that advice from Vainshtein had to be approved by a "channeler" who purportedly sought advice from an entity referred to as "Z." Jewel recently released her latest album, titled "Spirit."

Opera singer hangs himself in Cleveland clinic

CLEVELAND (CNN) -- Edward Russell White, an American opera singer who had been rehearsing for a role in Cleveland Opera's upcoming production of "Lucia di Lammermoor," died in a hospital Sunday, apparently by hanging, after surviving a drug overdose, police said Tuesday. White, 46, was admitted to Cleveland Clinic hospital Friday after taking an overdose of the prescription drug Clonazepam, which is used to treat panic attacks and seizures, police said. The singer from East Orange, New Jersey, also known by his stage name, Edward Russell, was transferred to a psychiatric ward after telling staff he wished to die, according to police. A nurse Sunday found the singer had placed blankets in his bed to make it look as if he was sleeping. He was found hanging from a sheet tied to a pipe above a removed ceiling panel, police said.

Artists sing for peace on 'Bridge Of Hope'

LONDON (CNN) -- A new album released Monday is helping raise money for victims of the August 15 bombing in Northern Ireland. "Across The Bridge Of Hope" features Sinead O'Connor, Van Morrison, U2 and Boyzone, and includes a reading by actor Liam Neeson of a poem written by 12-year-old Shaun McLaughlin, who was killed in the attack. The boy's poem about peace in Northern Ireland inspired the title of the album. The car bomb, planted by Irish Republican Army dissidents, killed 29 people and injured 370 in Omagh.
