San Giacomo

'Just Shoot Me' good medicine for Laura San Giacomo

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Laura San Giacomo, star of the NBC sitcom "Just Shoot Me," says working on the show helps her cope with her recent divorce. "To go to work and laugh every day is great medicine, and it's a great way to live," the actress who plays Maya Gallo told US magazine. San Giacomo divorced actor Cameron Dye this year after eight years of marriage. Their son Mason, who is almost 3, often joins her on the set of the comedy about the ups and downs of a fashion magazine. San Giacomo's co-star on the sitcom, comedian David Spade, says she is completely dedicated to her child. "That's why I like her, because she works really hard, and the second it's over, it's all kid." he said. "It's a lesson in parenting and growing up and everything that scares me in life."

Douglas

Kirk Douglas to receive lifetime achievement award

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Kirk Douglas has been named the next recipient of the Screen Actors Guild's lifetime achievement award. Douglas, who helped break the Hollywood blacklist in 1958 and has been nominated for three Academy Awards, will be presented with the award March 7. "In honoring Kirk Douglas, we pay tribute to a performer whose critically acclaimed achievements as an actor are matched by the strength of his personal character and integrity," SAG President Richard Mazur said in a statement Monday. Douglas demanded in 1958 that a blacklisted writer, Dalton Trumbo, be given credit for his work on the screenplay of "Spartacus," in which Douglas starred.

Walters

Is Barbara Walters getting married?

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The New York Post reported Monday that Barbara Walters was getting married again, but Walter's publicist has since denied the report. The Post claimed that the "20/20" anchorwoman was tying the knot with Senator John Warner. "It's just not true," Walters assistant Monica Caulfield said, adding that although Walters and Warner "have been friends for many, many, many years," they were not planning to marry. Walters has been married four times.

Frazier

Smokin' Joe not thrilled with Philly police

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) -- Former heavyweight boxing champ Joe Frazier says he's suing the city of Philadelphia, claiming police used excessive force when they arrested him on drunken driving charges. Frazier said Monday he has filed court papers indicating he will sue the city over the April 7 incident. "I thought that they handled me rough. I'm a very good citizen of the United States and Philadelphia, and I didn't see a reason for police handling me that way," Frazier said. He contends police tore his shoulder ligaments when they yanked his arms behind his back and shoved him into the back of a police cruiser. A judge found Frazier innocent of drunken driving during a bench trial on September 24.

Charles

Prince Charles donating art to benefit hospital

LONDON (CNN) -- For the first time ever, Prince Charles is donating one of his pieces of art to benefit a hospital that treated victims of Northern Ireland's worst-ever terrorist attack. The signed and dated lithograph will be auctioned Wednesday in support of County Tyrone Hospital in Omagh, where an Aug. 15 car bomb planted by Irish Republican Army dissidents killed 29 people and wounded 370. "This is the first time a piece of art by Prince Charles has been auctioned anywhere in the world, so we have not placed a reserve price on it," said John de Vere White, Dublin's premier auctioneer of fine art. Christie's London office has valued the lithograph at $3,400 to $5,100.
